Canal houses, stairs and hoisting beams
If you live in the Jordaan or along the canals, you know the stairs: steep, narrow and often with a turn halfway up. A sofa or wardrobe rarely goes up through the stairwell there. That’s why furniture in Amsterdam so often comes in through the window, using a hoisting beam or a furniture lift. We work with our own furniture lift and check in advance whether your windows are wide enough and whether there is room in front of the building to set it up.
The streets need preparation too. Canal streets are narrow, bridges sometimes have restrictions, and you can’t load or unload everywhere. We choose our vehicles to match: sometimes a smaller Sprinter box van is more practical than a large truck. From our hubs we can be on site quickly, even early in the morning.
Every neighbourhood its own approach
Amsterdam is more than the city centre. In De Pijp, Oost and West, many people live on a second or third floor without a lift. Oud-Zuid has spacious townhouses with high ceilings and valuable furniture. In Nieuw-West, Noord and Zuidoost you’ll find many flats with outdoor walkways and lifts, and on IJburg new builds where the owners’ association (VvE) has rules about lift use and loading spots.
Do you live on a houseboat? We’re happy to help you too, with extra care for the quay and the gangway. Moving from a ground-floor flat in West to an apartment in Noord, or from a townhouse in Oud-Zuid to a smaller home? Then we go through with you what comes along, what needs to go into the truck first and which room we set up first. That way, by the end of the day everything is where you want it.
How we arrange your move
You get one dedicated moving advisor who goes through everything with you: parking spaces, the use of the furniture lift and, if needed, storage in our own warehouse in The Hague if your new home isn’t ready yet. Your belongings are insured up to € 50,000. Want to know roughly what your move will cost? Request a price estimate.
