From wharf cellar to new-build district
Utrecht is a city of contrasts. Around the Oudegracht and in the city centre you’ll find centuries-old buildings, often with narrow stairs and small doors. In older neighbourhoods such as Wittevrouwen, Lombok and Oog in Al, many people live in an upstairs or downstairs flat, with a steep staircase going up. On the other side there’s Leidsche Rijn, with spacious family homes and apartments with a lift.
Overvecht and Kanaleneiland have many flats from the 1960s, while Lunetten and Zuilen have a mix of terraced houses and apartments. For every type of home we choose the right approach: a furniture lift for the upstairs flat in Lombok, extra blankets and wrap for fragile furniture, and a fixed loading spot at the new house in Leidsche Rijn.
Access and parking
- Low-traffic city centre: Utrecht’s centre is busy and largely low-traffic. Your moving advisor will look with you at how the truck can best reach the address and whether you need an exemption or permit from the municipality.
- Parking: each 20 m³ truck needs two parking spaces. In the older neighbourhoods the streets are often full, so reserve the space in good time.
- Furniture lift: for an upstairs flat without a suitable staircase, we use our own furniture lift. It needs a spot directly opposite the window or balcony.
Students, first-time buyers and families
Utrecht is a real stepping-stone city. Students move from a room to their first apartment, first-time buyers swap an upstairs flat for a family home in Leidsche Rijn, and people getting a bit older often choose an apartment with a lift. Each step needs different planning: a small van for a single room, or several movers for a complete family household. From our hubs we can be on site quickly, and we also drive moves between The Hague and Utrecht straight through in one go. If the key handovers don’t line up, your belongings can stay in our storage in The Hague for a while.
Tip: do you live on a canal or in a narrow street in the city centre? Measure your largest pieces of furniture beforehand and compare them with the door and stairwell. That way you’ll know whether a furniture lift is needed.
